HeartMath

Feeling Stressed? Too much to do, even though it is a holiday? Don't you wish you could slow down the adrenaline and cortisol and find stress relief anytime, any place?

Well you can now. The folks at HeartMath have created what they call a mobile and personal stress reliever, which is jargon for a hand heal biofeedback tool which helps you learn to regulate the time between heartbeats, which is actually called heart rate variability.

(Remember that old saw, "In a heartbeat...."). Think about this, if my heart beats 70 times per minute, then I am changing my hormonal bath (depending on my interpretation of perceptual data) in less than a second. So I could be moving from coherent to incoherent heart beat, associated with adrenaline and cortisol, in a heart beat, and life could change rapidly.

An eye blink takes 1/10th second, Mihalyi Czentmihalyi says we perceive nonverbal communication in 1/18th second. (page 28, "Flow".) Paul Ekman says expressions play across our faces in 1/25th second, and we react emotionally. Life changes fast.

Now I have a tool that gives me real time information about heart beat coherence.

This hand held tool contains sophisticated hardware and software which allows you to see real time information about the time between heartbeats, which is normally an unconscious process, not available for us to examine.

The more consistent that time between heartbeats is, the calmer you feel, even though nothing outside you has changed. In fact, once you get used to cuing relaxation frequently, your energy will increase and you may find yourself attempting to do more than you were prior to emWave.

The emWave will facilitate your ability to access the brain in the heart. Neurons in the heart?

Yes, enough so that the heart can learn and make decisions independently of the brain. Research indicates that the heart has much more impact on the brain than vice versa, and if the heart is beating consistently, then higher perceptual centers in the brain are opened up for use, in making what are usually affiliative and cooperative relationships.

I have been using the PC version of this in my private psychotherapy practice for four years with domestic violence and anger management clients. HeartMath has proven to be a God Send for some folks, who were never before aware of how their insides changed with each thought, and how powerful and fast that change is.
